New Year’s Resolutions for Your Home
From daily workouts and clean eating to more time spent outside and better budgeting, it’s easy to make New Year’s resolutions for yourself. Sticking with them… well, that’s another story. But this year, why not consider a resolution or two for yourhome? After all, this is where you –most likely– spend the majority of your time. You may even find that the resolutions you make for your home trickle down to your personal resolutions, making it easier to stick to overall goals. Below are some encouraging New Year’s resolutions for homeowners to consider for 2023:
Commit to quarterly cleanings.Perhaps you participate in spring cleaning… but what happens to your home the rest of the year? The best way to kick off a new year is to go through your space and clear the clutter. Of course, you can do it one room at a time– no need to overwhelm yourself from the start! To really stick with it, take your newest calendar and mark a few dates throughout the year for your quarterly cleanings. To make things easier, keep a ‘donate bin’ at all times in your home to toss things throughout the year. Then, when it comes time to spring (or summer or winter or fall) clean, you can take a trip and donate any unused clothes, furnishings, toys, etc. without another thought!
Rearrange furniture and decor. One of the easiest ways to spruce up your home is to rearrange things a bit! It’s incredible how a simple move of the couch or adding a few new paintings can make it feel like an entirely new space. Plus, doing this can also optimize heating and cooling bills. We recommend shifting things away from your heater or fireplace in the warmer months and then shifting everything back in the winter months.
Create a space for YOU.Whether you live alone or have a large family, one of the best resolutions you can make for your home is to create a comfortable, cozy spot that is all yours. Whether it’s a reading nook, a workspace, a yoga spot, or an art studio, the goal is to make it a spot you look forward to coming back to. Some people have guest bedrooms but don’t actually have guests that often – do you reallywanta guest bedroom or can you make that a space that actually reflects YOUR needs? Remember, your home should be a reflection of who you are and what helps you unwind.
Prepare for emergencies. This can be an easy resolution to put off; after all, no one wants to think about theworst-case scenario. But prepping ahead of time will give you so much peace of mind for the new year! Apart from checking your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms and replacing batteries, it’s recommended to check and prepare your emergency exits. In addition, consider a home alarm system if you don’t already have one. Even a doorbell camera can be a great and affordable purchase to create an even safer space for you and your family.
Of course, there are endless options for your home. You can resolve to do just about anything! Perhaps you’ve been wanting to upgrade your kitchen or bathroom, or maybe start a vegetable garden. No matter what goals you make, don’t be too hard on yourself – small steps lead to BIG progress! You can even make 2023 the year you move into your new home!
